We caught up with Mandy at Annye’s this week to give us a colorful blog post on how to
Live Long. Be Strong and Laugh A lot.
Eat from the rainbow.
Choose colorful foods-beets, purple cauliflower, green beans, yellow squash. These foods help to alkalize our bodies.
Some benefits to balancing your body’s pH:
more elastic, youthful skin
Deeper more restful sleep
Abundant physical energy
Fewer colds, headaches, flu viruses
Reduction of candida (yeast) overgrowth
BE STRONG: Lift weighs, take the stairs and Walk! Get your body moving this summer!
LAUGH A LOT =Summer is the time of the year many of our friends & family come for a visit. I have some loved ones here from San Francisco and we laugh everyday!
READ A BOOK. =I am reading another book Annye recommended to me called “The Good Gut.”
It’s about the relationship between our bodies and the trillions of organisms representing thousands of species to which our bodies play host, the microbes that we collectively call the microbiota. We have all heard the Buzzwords like probiotic and prebiotic, but how many of us really know what those terms mean? Here to explain those concepts, and everything else related to the role of bacteria in our bodies, are two Stanford University School of Medicine scientists with indisputable credentials. It’s like a manual for your gut and it’s really enlightening.
This is hard for me because I don’t like to cook. I TRY to eat real food. Whole food. Veggies, protein, some fruit. Below on the yellow plate is a meal I recently made. Rosemary cod with purple cauliflower and haricot verts. It was good and good for me too. I LOVE Sushi. Yoshi is my jam! Nantucket Tuna Rolls are yummy.
Every morning, I make a green juice. In it, I am puttting kale, ginger, lemon, romaine, cucumber, broccoli steams, apples. I am mixing in a new product we just started carrying from OsetoNaturals called Mineral Whey. It’s like a protein powder but it’s full of minerals like potassium & calcium and helps to alkalize your body and bring your pH into balance.
This has to be Ivy’s Poison down at DUNE.
It’s delicious and it’s made with Rose wine, which is a hallmark of summer, for sure.
Try one…..at least one. It tastes like summer. It really does. (Photograph by Dune Nantucket)
Cattrap Nantucket is in the midst of a matching fund drive. If they can raise $7,500, they will receive a matching grant from the Carlee Charitable Trust.
Cattrap is a nonprofit on the Island. Their mission is to lower Nantucket’s feral cat population through a humane “trap, neuter, return, care, and educate” program. They provide sanctuary for cats with special needs and find caring homes for socialized cats and kittens. My 2 kitties, Shimmo & Cosmo are Cattrap kitties!
